Eimeo Road State School encourages the involvement and participation of students in extra-curricular activities. Students are given the opportunity to be involved in a number of sporting or musical options. This extra-curricular activity enables students to learn new skills, develop their leadership, create new or improved social relationships with peers, and can feel the pride of representing the school.



Whitsunday voices

Students are involved in the Whitsunday Voices event. This prestigious event creates opportunities for students to discover the joy of writing and reading. Students from Eimeo Road arrive at these days to embrace learning with their peers from different schools, and from highly accomplished authors from all walks of life. This event is the highlight for Eimeo Road students who desire to improve their academic potential.

 

Simultaneous Reading

National Simultaneous Storytime is in its 22nd big year in 2022 and Eimeo Road Teachers and students have been joining this community on the journey. On this special day, students and teachers all read the same book, fostering a sense of community and excitement around reading. It's the perfect way to get your kids excited about books and learning!



Premiers Reading Challenge

The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an annual statewide initiative for Queensland state and non-state schools and home-educated students from Prep to Year 9, as well as children (aged up to 5 years) enrolled in an early childhood centre.

The PRC aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.

ERSS students from prep to year 6 participate in the PRC each year.


Mackay Show Writing Competition

Teachers are Eimeo Road State School are passionate about giving students the chance to show their creativity and ideas in writing. One way this is achieved is through the Mackay Show. Students from our school present their best handwriting to be judged against other schools. Eimeo Road students love to show their excellent work at this event.

 

Opti-MINDS

Opti-MINDS Creative Sustainability Challenge is an inclusive team challenge which EMPOWERS participants to THINK, CREATE & COMMUNICATE. Opti-MINDS is a creative problem-solving event for teams of participants from Preschool to Adult within 4 divisions. Students are required to solve demanding, open-ended Challenges from one of the following categories:

| Language Literature | Media Communication | Science Engineering | Social Sciences |

The Opti-MINDS Challenge is an opportunity for all those with a passion for learning & problem solving to showcase their skills & talents in an exciting, vibrant & public way.


Mackay Mathematic Challenge

ERSS Mathematic Challenge teams are made up of year 5 and 6 students. These students send time during semester 1 to develop there mathematical problem solving skill in a variety of different situations.

The aim of the challenge is:   

1. To foster interest in creative problem solving  

2. To stimulate interest in mathematics  

3. To provide a day of intellectual fun in a scholarly atmosphere. 


Rock Pop Mine

It is a wonderful cultural event with students from year 3-6 choreographing dance routines, outstanding light shows and costumes to deliver a message spreading awareness of a local environmental issue.

Students rehearsal weekly at school during the lead up to the Mackay event with a full dress rehearsal performed at school during the day of the event also.


Addition Lunchtime activities

Teachers at Eimeo Road run lunchtime activities for students. Lunchtime activities allow students to develop individual skills of topics that interest them, or to learn new skills. It is a great way to socialise with friends and teachers and enables students to have something to look forward to at lunchtime. Some of the clubs that have been created are:

  • Writing club
  • Lego Masters
  • Chess Club – students who participate in Chess Club can also compete in interschool events.
  • Digital technology coding using Sphero's
